Why we're not on social media

Tablecraft Games doesn't maintain a presence on the major social media platforms. As a new company, we know this makes it harder to build an audience, but we believe it's worth the extra effort.

One of our core principles is encouraging analogue, in-person social connection through games. Bringing people together to play, setting aside time, and being present all take intention. We believe the design patterns of major platforms (algorithmic feeds, infinite scroll, optimised engagement) work against that intention. When we say social media, we're speaking mostly about platforms that curate the content of their channel to create engagement loops that can be hard to resist.

Having said all that, we know people have different relationships with these platforms and different reasons for using them. As a company, we choose not to spend our time and money on cutting through all that to reach a handful of people. As a company trying to promote face-to-face play, it just doesn't feel right and we'd rather spend that money on events and new games.

We're not anti-digital. We'll use email newsletters, community sites like BGG and Reddit, and we'll lean heavily on in-person events and word of mouth. If you like what we're making, please tell your friends.

When someone plays our games, we want our principles woven into that experience. As an example, our games will never require other devices or inputs beyond what you receive in the box.

Here are some tangible ways people can find us and share our information:

  • Sign up to our newsletter (site footer)
  • Come to an event we're holding or attending
  • Contact us directly via email (via this site)
  • Chat with us on BGG or Reddit

We always want to be thoughtful about how and where we connect, because building a great community is its own reward and we're excited to do it differently.
