It’s hard to go up against tradition, but executing change is just like executing anyone else.
Veks sat in the dimly lit hall with her colleagues and listened to the Speaker rattle off the Guild’s recent jobs. People were getting sloppier, but the Guild had no explicit rules about casualties as long as the job was done and kept secret.
Veks stood to interject, knowing the risk, and the Speaker stopped. “I propose an amendment. Not being held to account is making us weak. We must bear responsibility for our mishaps.”
“Then you issue a challenge?” the Speaker asked. Veks nodded and walked without sound towards the dais where the Leader sat, observing.
As Veks strode forward there was a glint of metal from near the Leader, who seemed to flicker for a moment before slumping forward in their chair.
